This is a great shot! I love where this is taken. It gives a feel for what is going on (or what's supposed to be going on) in the picture.
In my personal opinion, it gets on my nerves when a photographer takes a photo of something in the wrong place. Take this for example... Wouldn't the effect be weaker if it had been taken in a busy shopping mall?
Anyway, your background is simple, and perfect. The styling of the hair was great, also.
This was amazing, but I recommend more detail for the character. This is a war shot, is it not? It might add more of a "wow" factor if you looked a little roughed up, so to speak. A little dirt here, a cut or two there... Just to put us all into the heart of what is being portrayed.
Overall, the picture is amazing. I recommend a bit more detail, but the shading falls just right, and it certainly caught my eye!
